A couple of us loaded up the kayaks, fly rods, spinning rods and a bunch of tackle and headed into the backcountry to fish for tarpon, barracuda, snook, bonefish, permit and/or any other species. Our standard trips begin and end at our waterfront lodge in Arroyo City. Anglers will be shuttled via shallow running bay boats to the best location based upon the weather of the day. Typically we head into the wind and travel several miles before dropping off the anglers and their kayaks. For us, Green Island is a popular pick up or drop off spot. Anglers can expect the water to be clear and shallow. And with the Freedom Hawk Expedition 14, anglers will be able to sit, stand or sit in a chair with an umbrella for shade while drifting across the flats. This is a little known destination in the Yucatan. The fly fishing for tarpon is very good all year round. Many anglers are addicted to fly fishing for permit on the shallow flats of Espiritu Santo Bay. And even beginning anglers learning to fly fishing will enjoy chasing the countless bonefish schools that surround the lodge. It is the ultimate adventure fishing location. Located on the private island of Punta Pajaros, south of Casa Blanca Fly Fishing Lodge and a little north of Playa Blanca and within the boundaries of the Sian Ka'an Bioshpere Reserve, Casa Redonda is surrounded by the very best all round fishing in all of the carribean. Casa Redonda overlooks the Caribbean Sea. As the sun rises the water lights up exposing monster barrucuda, ferocious jack, an assortment of sharks, even migratory tarpon and permit on the coral heads right out your front door. Casa Redonda also fishes Sacrificio flats on the northern most portion of Espiritu Santo Bay. Fish for Bonefish upwards of 10 lbs. Permit are frequently found standing on their heads in one of the small blue holes that dot the sandy, grassy bottom. Sacrificio is perfectly located for winter fishing trip or fly fishing vacation in the Yucatan. Mucho shelter from the big northern winds make Sacrificio fishable in even the most inclement weather.
